2021

In September 2021, the Trustees considered detailed plans to build a new Village Hall on the current site.

The Parish Council had previously advised that they would object to any enabling development outside the current site as it would be counter to the published Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP). [NDP: The CM NDP is produced by the Parish Council in consultation with the local community. It allows communities more control over the future of their area giving locals a chance to have their say on what happens where they live. It is a tier of Planning Policy that empowers communities to shape the development and growth of a local area. Once adopted, the Neighbourhood Plans form part of the local statutory development plan which forms the basis for determining planning applications in that area.]

A questionnaire was distributed to all householders to determine village support for the project.

Planning application (N/2022/00089) was made on 21 December 2021 to remove 45m of hedgerow to accommodate the construction of a new village hall – this was approved on 31 January 2022.

2022

A final information leaflet & questionnaire was delivered to every household in CM, via the Parish News, inviting villagers to two open Meetings on either 12 or 15 February 2022 - the village confirmed the decision to build the New Village Hall on the current site endorsing the site and building plans, design, and materials to be used.

On 21 February 2022 the Village Hall purchased an additional parcel of land, for £30k, from the Porters to augment the current Village Hall site to accommodate the proposed build for a new Village Hall.

[Throughout this lengthy process the Village Hall Trustees have consulted the village through open public meetings, articles published in the monthly 'Parish News' (distributed to every household in the village), notices/posters displayed on the three Village notice boards (Village Hall, Village Shop, Recreation Ground) and leaflet drops, including questionnaires, delivered to every house. The have embraced the use of email, the internet - the village has its own website and since 2021, they have used social media - 'Shout-out Christian Malford' (1.2k members) on 'Facebook'; plus, additionally, they have recently set up a page for 'Friends of Christian Malford Village Hall' on 'Facebook'.]
