The state of the hall, and the costs of maintenance were starting to cause concern; it was decided to begin to investigate a replacement for the current Village Hall. The Village Hall established a Rebuild Sub-Committee progress was slow and ground to a halt when we failed to secure funding from the ‘National Lottery’ – we had done well to get through the initial screening process and reached the third level before stumbling - we were deemed to be a predominately white, middle-class village! The problem had not gone away …. We still needed to replace our current Village Hall.
2008
At a public meeting in March 2008, the Village Hall Trustees were given a 3-year mandate to investigate selling the current village hall site to raise funds for a rebuild on an alternative site.
2010 – 2012
Planning application (N/10/04118/OUT) made 2 November 2010 to extend the Pavilion on the Recreation Ground to incorporate a New Village Hall. This application was subsequently revised and re-submitted (N/12/00373/OUT) on 7 Mar 2012; the ‘planners’ rejected the application on 26 April 2012 over concerns over access to the Recreation Ground from The Green due to the increased levels of traffic.
The village were then asked in a questionnaire, given a number options as to where they would like to see the new Village Hall built – on the current site, adapt and modify the Church to incorporate the Village Hall, on Malford Meadow or purchase additional land (possibly adjacent to the Rising Sun) - 58% of the respondents stated that their preference was for the Village Hall to remain in its present location.
2011
In 2011 the Trustees presented 3 options to the village; rebuild at current site, build an extension to the Pavilion at the Recreation Ground or build a new hall on Malford Meadow. These options were discussed in a public meeting on 27 June 2011 and put to a ballot. The extension to the Pavilion was the preferred choice.
2012
On 5 March 2012, the ‘Governance Document’ from the 8 September 1960 Conveyance was amended by ‘Deed’. Changes were required to reflect the village hall user groups and modern processes. One member is appointed from each of the following organisations:
Parish Council Parochial Church Council WI Table Tennis Club
Luncheon Club Malford Players Yoga Acorns
Friends of the School
From these members the following officers are appointed annually at the AGM: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Bookings Officer.
2016
In December 2016, the nine 'user groups', representing a large proportion of villagers, were consulted, and asked to score a list of new build requirements, and add any additional ones they would wish to see. 50 individual requirements were identified - the committee then determined which were 'MUSTs' (To be included in the design) and which were 'WANTS' (These would be costed, and the committee would decide if they should be incorporated based on budget and importance). These were then used to determine the hall design that we now have.
